Powerful View of the Kokugikan
The Gate Hotel Ryogoku has the image of as a riverside hotel located along the Sumida River, but it is also notable for its location right in front of the Ryogoku Kokugikan (Sumo Hall).
The views from the guest rooms are mainly divided into two types: the Sumida River side and the Kokugikan side.
The majestic view from the window on the Kokugikan side is a must-see even if you are not a sumo enthusiast.
Looking through the window, you can see the Tokyo Sky Tree.
The room types on the Kokugikan side are Authentic Double, Authentic Hollywood Twin, and Essential Hollywood Twin.
The closer you are to the Kokugikan, the more impressive the view will be!

The higher you go, the more you can see down to the back of the Kokugikan,
If your timing is good, you may be able to see sumo wrestlers coming and going.
The lower you go, you will experience an up close view.
During the Sumo Tournament, colorful banners appear around the Kokugikan, and people can be seen stopping to take pictures.
Also, from the taiko drum tower in front of the Kokugikan, lively taiko drumming can be heard at the opening and closing of the tournament.
They are called ichiban-daiko and hae-daiko, which signal “Sumo is about to start” and “Today’s sumo is over, please come again”.
The sound of the drums creates a festive atmosphere. Even if you are not interested in sumo, you should definitely check out the Kokugikan side of the building when you stay in a guest room.
Rooms with a view of the Sky Tree
Finally, if you want to enjoy both the Kokugikan, the Sumida River, and the Sky Tree, we recommend the Scenic Hollywood Twin room.
With windows on two sides, this is one of the few rooms where you can enjoy both views.
