Kimono Rental: Kimono Dressing Experience

Hello, this is the staff of The Gate Hotel Kyoto Takasegawa. Today, we had the luxurious experience of walking around Kyoto, the ancient capital of Japan, in a kimono of our choice and having a professional photographer take pictures of us after a kimono dressing experience at Yumeyakata, a kimono rental store in Gojo. Even people living in Kyoto, do not often have a chance to walk around in kimono.

Dressing experience

First, you choose what kind of kimono you would like to be dressed in. However, it can be a challenging task to choose a kimono from the wide variety of beautiful choices available. After all, there are so many cute kimonos.

Kimonos from Yumeyakata are available in a variety of patterns. It was hard to choose!
I stared at the mirror and wondered, “Which one should I choose? They are all so perfect!”

The yukata experience, available only during the summer, is also very popular at Yumeyakata.
Unlike kimonos, there were many cute yukatas lined up with large patterns.
It looks like it would be hard to choose one.

A variety of colorful yukata. You can choose the one you like.

After much agonizing, I decided on one to try on this time. I forgot to take a picture of it, but there are many kinds of obis and obi ornaments, so it was very difficult to choose one.

I finally decided to have this kimono put on!

After choosing the kimono, obi, and obi ornaments, it was time to get dressed!

This time, I also requested a hair set as part of the optional plan, so I first had my hair set beautifully.
For the basic hair set, you can choose one of eight different hairstyles, including yokai-maki, half-up, braided, chignon, and so on, that you would like to have. All of these hair sets are beautiful and I had trouble choosing here as well.

You will choose one of the 8 types and have it set. I can’t wait to see what my hair will look like!

After the dressing is completed, you will choose a bag for your kimono. Again, as usual, I was very, very indecisive. All the bags are so cute…

How cute are these bags?!

After choosing from all the bags, I breathed a sigh of relief. It had been a series of difficult choices up to this point.
And yet, we made it…! At last, at last, it is done! And I’m ready to go.

Then we took commemorative photos in our stunning kimonos.
The Yumeyakata has space for photos, where you can take pictures while using cute accessories.

You can take pictures wearing masks of sheep, foxes, rabbits, and other animals.
The adorable photo booth is sure to get you excited!

Stroll the streets of Kyoto!

Once you are dressed, it is time to go to the streets of Kyoto for a photoshoot.

First, we arrived at Gion Shirakawa, where you can feel the unique atmosphere of Kyoto. The weather was fine and it was a perfect day for a stroll, but as one would expect in Kyoto, it was very hot walking through the streets in kimono.

Time for solo shots. The photographer is taking pictures while encouraging us.

After that, we walked to Kiyamachi and Takasegawa area, our home.
Walking through the streets of Kyoto in kimono, made me feel like a different, more refined person even in familiar streets.
Arriving at Kiyamachi, I took a quick shot with the townscape.

This was a familiar Kiyamachi location for a photo shoot.
The professional photographer did a great job! Thank you for the wonderful photos.

The last shot was taken in front of The Gate Hotel Kyoto Takasegawa, which is our home.
Perhaps because of the sense of security, our faces were naturally smiling.

This photo was taken at the front bridge over the Takasegawa River.

This was the first time for us to try on kimonos and take pictures.
Walking around the streets of Kyoto, in our favorite kimonos was such a memorable experience that made the familiar cityscape look different from the one we are used to. There were so many beautiful kimono colors and patterns to choose from that we definitely want to come back and try it again! It was an experience that made me feel like I would like to visit again.

When you visit Kyoto, rent a kimono at Yumeyakata and experience walking the streets in your favorite one for a special memory you will never forget.
