Saryo Tsujiri: a Japanese-Style Cafe by Gion Tsujiri with Delicious Sweets

Saryo Tsujiri is owned by Gion Tsujiri, a long-established Uji tea specialty store in Kyoto.
The staff of The Gate Hotel Kyoto Takasegawa actually visited Saryo Tsujiri and tasted the tea, and would like to share the shops charms with you.

What is Saryo Tsujiri?

Saryo Tsujiri is a tea house specializing in Uji green tea that delivers the true taste and pleasure of tea.
The restaurant is located in the main store of Gion Tsujiri and opened in 1978 as Saryo Tsujiri, combining the name Tsujiri with varying kanji to create a name that represents the home of tea.

Gion Tsujiri has a long history of serving delicious Uji tea.

Saryo Tsujiri’s Mission

“The moment you taste our menu, you will be absorbed by the aroma of tea and azuki beans.
In order to deliver this moment to our customers, we are thoroughly committed to creating a space and using the finest ingredients.

Our sweets and space are perfectly suited for hot summer days, cold winter days, and spring and fall days when you can enjoy Kyoto’s stunning atmosphere.

Saryo Tsujiri is always waiting for you to come and enjoy what Kyoto has to offer.

We hope you will enjoy our gems that are made with the utmost care and attention to the taste of tea.”

-From the official website of Saryo Tsujiri

Saryo Tsujiri offers a variety of menu items to meet the various needs of visitors to the Gion area, such as the standard green tea parfait, seasonal shaved ice, and a menu featuring green tea soba noodles that will bring a smile to your face the moment that you taste them.

In addition, ingredients made on that day are only for that day. Everything is always freshly prepared. They offer the finest sweets by carefully selecting not only the tea itself but also all the ingredients used, such as freshly made anko (red bean paste) made from rare dainagon and handmade shiratama (white rice cake balls) using additive-free ingredients.

Saryo Tsujiri Gion main store experience

“First of all, when we were shown to our seats, we were impressed by the decorations in the restaurant and the abundance of menu items. After much deliberation, I decided to order the Spring Urara, which was only available at the Gion main store for a limited time, and the standard Tsujiri Parfait.

The Spring Urara was available only in April, and is a luxurious spring-themed parfait, with plenty of sakura ice cream, green tea ice cream, and sakura warabimochi, topped with homemade sakura cheesecake.”

Spring Urara

The Tsujiri Parfait is the classic parfait of Saryo Tsujiri, named after the restaurant, and is truly a matcha-full parfait using rich matcha green tea, which is a specialty of the restaurant.

Tsujiri Parfait

Both parfaits are very tasty desserts that utilize the delicious flavor of Uji green tea.

There are many other sweets on the parfait menu and various seasonal menus which means there’s something to try regardless of the season. Even our staff wants to sample more flavors here.
