Long-Established Mini Movie Theater: CINE SWITCH GINZA

Hello, this is the staff of The Gate Hotel Tokyo. Today, we’re going to introduce to you CINE SWITCH Ginza located on Ginza Gaslight Avenue.

What is CINE SWITCH Ginza?

CINE SWITCH Ginza is a long-established mini-theater with two screens. It became a hot topic when it screened “New Cinema Paradise” in a single theater, and has since screened many famous films, including “Life is Beautiful” and “Little Dancer”.

Located on Ginza Gaslight Avenue, away from the hustle and bustle of the main street.

Since its opening on November 21, 1955 as the Ginza Bunka Gekijo, it has been known by the nickname Ginbun. The name CINE SWITCH Ginza was born from the fact that one of the two theaters continues to offer more than 500 Hollywood classics, while the other switches between foreign and Japanese films selected from around the world.

Female-friendly movie theater

The cinema’s location (the short distance from the bustling main street), its calm atmosphere, and the warmth of the films screened at the cinema all contribute to a relaxing atmosphere despite the theater’s location in the large Ginza district.

CINE SWITCH Ginza was the first cinema to offer a Ladies’ Day. Even today, the theater is very popular with women of all ages, as they can enjoy a movie for just 950 yen every Friday.

Two movie screens

Purchase a ticket at the counter and head down the stairs on the right to the basement CINE SWITCH 1 (271 seats). Here, there are also roof balcony-type second-floor seats, which are rare these days.

The wall of the waiting area is decorated with film introductions drawn by Ryoko Hamaguri, a painter.
As you walk down the stairs, your anticipation for the film will increase.
CINE SWITCH 1 is decorated in brownish tones, reminiscent of a forest at night.

On the third floor is CINE SWITCH 2 (182 seats).

CINE SWITCH 2 is decorated in blue to evoke the image of the deep sea.

Both screens are based on the theme of an urban oasis and centered around creating a relaxing and healing atmosphere. The recommended seat for both screens is the center seat, where you can enjoy movies with the best sound.

The waiting area has a nostalgic atmosphere surrounded by many movie pamphlets.

CINE SWITCH is a 7-minute walk from The Gate Hotel Tokyo, or a 1-minute walk from Exit A10 of Ginza Station when coming by subway.

While watching a powerful action movie on the big screen is fun, there is also something special about a moment of intoxication with a soothing masterpiece in a relaxing and peaceful setting. Recharge yourself at this urban oasis this weekend.
