Ginza Kaiseki Cuisine Zarai Oita: Taste Oita’s Local Cuisine in a High-Quality Space

Hello, this is the staff of The Gate Hotel Tokyo. In this article, we would like to introduce Zarai Oita, a restaurant where you can enjoy authentic Japanese cuisine using seasonal ingredients in a high-quality space.

What is Zarai Oita?

Zarai Oita is a showroom store/restaurant that conveys the charm of Oita in a luxurious space made of Oita’s specialty Moso bamboo, Hita cedar, and Usuki stone.

Zarai is a phrase from the Taiheiki (a historic Japanese chronical), which means “while you are here”.

The shop is designed to be a place where people can enjoy the bounty of Oita’s nature and people, and reminisce about the past and the future, all while being in Ginza, Tokyo.

Their lunch menu includes ryukyu, a local dish of sashimi dipped in sweet and spicy sauce, and Oita’s specialty toriten, or chicken tempura, which is served with a freshly baked dashi maki Japanese omelet made from “toyo no yone tamago” (rice egg).
Each dish, which changes with the seasons, is an elaborate masterpiece.

Corn tofu, grilled ayu fish, and Isagi’s ryukyu are all seasonal delicacies. Kabosu fruit is also used in the soup. The lunch menu is 4,180 yen (tax included), 10% service charge not included.

The beautiful tableware made by an Oita ceramic artist adds to the meal’s flavor and atmosphere.

The coffee cups made of Oshikada-yaki pottery are aesthetically pleasing and lend a hand to creating a calm atmosphere.

Seating options to suit any occasion

The open main dining room is lavishly decorated with Oita’s natural materials, and there is also counter seating in the back where you can watch the cooking process up close. We also recommend their private rooms where you can enjoy your meal in a calm and private space for dinner and special occasions.

The Bamboo Room features delicate lighting by Oita-based artist Nakatomi Hajime, and two rooms that can be connected to accommodate up to 16 people.
In the three-room Ishi-no-Ma (Stone Room), works by Oita glass artist Ai Hitoshi Inoue create a calm yet refreshing space.

Gallery Zarai Oita

The Gallery Zarai Oita at the entrance displays Oita Prefecture’s finest products, including yuzu pepper, shiso sauce, dressing, and other seasonings, sweets, and tea, as well as Oshikada pottery and glass crafts.

Famous sweets and delicacies from the sea and mountains are displayed on furniture made of Hita cedar produced in Hita City, Oita Prefecture.

Original baked sweets made with kabosu and golden sesame are the perfect treat for yourself.
Kabosu sablé, with its gentle sweetness, sourness, and hint of bitterness, is perfect with a glass of wine.
Perfect to enjoy in your room!

The store is located on the third floor of Hulic Square Tokyo, which houses The Gate Hotel Tokyo. It is a one-minute walk from the hotel via the elevator in the building, or a one-minute walk from Exit C1 of Tokyo Metro Ginza Station if you are coming by train.

Spend quality time in Ginza, enjoying and thinking about what Oita has to offer.
